SOUTH OF THE BORDER (Down Mexico Way) has been a Top Twenty hit for a half dozen artists from Gene Autry to Guy Lombardo since bandleader Shep Fields`s evocative version topped the charts in 1939. Frank Sinatra recorded this song in April of 1953, and his version went smoothly swinging up the charts later that year.
