Song: Somebody Else Is Taking My Place
Written by Bob Ellsworth, Dick Howard, Russ MorganTrombonist and big band leader Russ Morgan co-wrote SOMEBODY ELSE IS TAKING MY PLACE in 1937 but did not record the song until 1942,when his version appeared in the film "Strictly In The Groove." Morgan`s record reached No. 5 but was eclipsed by Benny Goodman`s version, featuring vocalist Peggy Lee, which stayed at No. 1 for three weeks in 1942 (when re-released in 1948, it became a Top 30 hit all over again). Other artists who`ve recorded the song include Dinah Washington, Steve Lawrence and Kate Smith. The tune was also featured in Gene Autry`s cowboy film "Call Of the Canyon."
