Written by Jerome Kern, Dorothy FieldsPICK YOURSELF UP was written for the film “Swing Time” where it was introduced by Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers. This tune served as the theme song for the short-lived 1955-56 television variety series, “The Johnny Carson Show.”
On January 20, 2009, President Barack Obama quoted the lyrics of this song in his inauguration speech saying, “Starting today, we must pick ourselves up, dust ourselves off, and begin the work of remaking America.”
