Tommy Dorsey was the leader of one of America's most popular dance bands in 1940, the year he began working in Chicago with Frank Sinatra. By the time they recorded IN THE BLUE OF EVENING in June of 1942, Sinatra had grown so popular that he decided to strike out on his own.
