Song: Guitar Boogie
Written by Arthur Smith
South Carolina native Arthur Smith hosted one of the South's most popular radio shows during the 30's and 40's. An accomplished guitar, banjo, and mandolin player, Smith was also a composer of bopping tunes like GUITAR BOOGIE, which he recorded with his band the Cracker-Jacks, in 1948. A top 10 Country hit, his single also climbed to No. 25 on the Pop charts the same year.
Philadelphia native Frank Virtue and his band, The Virtues, hit No. 5 in 1959 with GUITAR BOOGIE SHUFFLE, based on guitarist Arthur Smith's 1948 hit GUITAR BOOGIE.
In 1997, Tom Petty performed GUITAR BOOGIE SHUFFLE during his famous two-week sold out performance broadcast live from San Francisco's Fillmore.
