Privacy Policy Statement for Shapiro, Bernstein & Co., Inc. and its Affiliated Companies
Shapiro, Bernstein & Co., Inc., on behalf of itself and its affiliated companies (hereafter, together, “SB”) has created this Privacy Policy in order to demonstrate its firm commitment to privacy. The following policy is applicable to SB’s information collecting and the use and disclosure practices for the SB Website (“the Site”). Your use of this Site tells us that you have read and accept the practices outlined in this policy.
SB is the sole owner of the information collected on this Site. We will not sell, share, or rent this information to others in ways that vary from what is disclosed in this statement. Personal information, such as your name, address and contact information may be gathered from you on a voluntary basis, at various times on the Site and will be used only if you wish to be added to SB’s mailing list so you may receive information about SB’s activities, if you wish to secure a license from SB to use one the compositions in our catalogue, of if you wish to contact us. You need not submit personal information to use the Site except for the foregoing.
We do use cookies on this Site. A computer cookie is a locally stored file associated with the current session of the person browsing the website and the computer that he or she is using. This is known as a “session” (or “temporary”) cookie, which does not identify you personally and expires when you close your browser. There are also “persistent” cookies that do not expire when you close your browser, but stay in your computer until you delete them.
Both kinds of cookies serve such useful functions as, for example, allowing us to collect statistical information about the way visitors use our Site, allowing automatic registration log-on, preserving website preferences, or saving items to a shopping cart. Cookies can allow us to determine which aspects of our Site are most popular, which, in turn, helps us to make your use of our Site a more pleasant and helpful experience.
Parts of our Site will not function if you do not have cookies enabled. Nevertheless, you can set your browser to refuse cookies or to let you know when a cookie is being sent to your computer. If you turn off cookies or refuse them then you may not be able to use every part of our Site.
Regardless of the foregoing, please note that we will share personal information when required to do so by law, or in connection with legal proceedings, judicial or otherwise, by a court order or in response to a subpoena or other legal process; where it is required to investigate a crime (e.g., identity theft); in connection with the sale, purchase, merger, reorganization, liquidation or dissolution of SB; or when we believe that such disclosure is called for to protect the rights, property or safety of SB or that of third parties.
Our Site is not directed to young children (anyone under the age of 13) and we would not ask for personal information from anyone we know to be under that age unless we have parental consent that we can verify. If we learn that we have collected such information from an underage user (i.e., someone under the age of 13) without such consent we will remove that information from our files.
Other than as indicated in this Statement, we do not share our information with anyone. The personal information we gather is strictly for our use to communicate with persons who access our Site and wish to receive further information regarding SB’s activities. Moreover, only employees who need the information to perform a specific job are granted access to personally identifiable information.
To the extent that this Site contains links to other websites please note that SB is not responsible for the privacy practices of such other websites. We encourage our users to be aware when they leave our Site and to read the privacy statements of each and every website that collects personally identifiable information. This privacy statement applies solely to information collected by this Site.
If we decide to change our privacy policy, which we may do at any time and without prior notice, we will make best efforts to promptly post those changes on our Site so our users are always aware of what information we collect, how we use it, and under what circumstances, if any, we disclose it. Any change will become effective immediately upon being posted on the Site. We will use information in accordance with the privacy policy under which the information was collected. We recommend that users read the Privacy Policy each time they access the Site so that they can ascertain whether there have been any changes.
We make reasonable efforts to employ and follow generally accepted industry standards with respect to protecting any personally identifiable information that we may obtain during any interactions with our Site. However, no method of transmission over the Internet can be guaranteed to be 100% secure. So, while we do make every effort to apply industry standards to protect such personally identifiable information, as noted above, we cannot guarantee absolute security. In that regard we refer you to the Terms of Use section of this website and point out that this Privacy Policy is subject, also, to the Terms of Use that governs access to this Site.
