The crowd- and critic-pleasing Tony Bennett (b. Queens, NY 13 Aug. 1926) first broke into pop music with "Because of You" in 1951. Since then, he has weathered the arrival of rock and emerged with dignity and popularity in the 90's. After a string of successful albums, a Carnegie Hall concert, and several TV appearances in the 60's, Bennett focused his attention on his live act until releasing The Art of Excellence in 1986. Since then, aside from hosting holiday TV specials, he has released a retrospective box-set, tributes to Fred Astaire and Frank Sinatra, and an MTV Unplugged album, showing his ability to address an audience of all ages.
