Brenda Shannon Greene, who began her singing career at York University, became famous as simply "Shannon" in November 1983 thanks to her dance hit "Let The Music Play." The tune climbed to No. 8 on the pop charts early the following year and was the No. 1 dance record for six weeks. This success was repeated in most European countries. Her follow-up hit, "Give Me Tonight," climbed into the R&B Top 10 in the spring of 1984 and was a No. 1 dance hit for four weeks. Shannon's classic dance hits continue to be some of the most popular recordings of the 1980s.
