PATSY CLINE (b. Winchester, VA, Sept. 8, 1932; d. Camden, TN, Mar. 5, 1963) bridged the gap between country and popular music, singing catchy country tunes with urban finesse and charm. She first gained notice winning an early equivalent to Star Search on TV in 1957, singing "Walkin' After Midnight," which became a hit. After joining the Grand Ole Opry in 1960, she continued to release hits with cross-over appeal, including "Crazy," which was written by a young Willie Nelson. On the brink of true stardom, she died an untimely death in an airplane crash in 1963, but was recognized posthumously as an inductee into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1973.
