Accordionist/bandleader Lawrence Welk (b. Strasburg, ND, March 11, 1903; d. May 17, 1992) hosted one of the most popular TV shows in America from 1955 until the mid-1970s. Welk began recording in the 1930s and continued making his own brand of polka, easy listening and, what he termed, "champagne music" for over thirty years.
