Kay Starr's (b. Katherine Starks, Dougherty, OK, July 21, 1922) successful career as a solo artist began when she recorded "You Were Only Fooling (While I Was Falling In Love)" at one of her first recording sessions. The song was released on Capitol Records in 1948, and it promptly climbed to No. 16 on the charts later that year. Starr's second hit, "So Tired," soared to No. 7 early the next year. For the next ten years, she scored with hit after hit. Starr also became one of the first recording artists to "overdub" her own voice in her recording of "Side by Side" (No. 3/1953).
