Few artists would dub themselves "Killer," but JERRY LEE LEWIS (b. Ferriday, LA, Sept. 29 1935) has enough ego and skill to justify the moniker. A talented pianist since childhood, Lewis quickly assimilated the playing styles of others and could deliver fireball performances with an underlying sophistication. In 1957 he signed with Sun Records, following Elvis's lead, and with the whirlwind releases of "Whole Lotta Shakin' Goin' On," "Great Balls of Fire," "Down the Line," and "High School Confidential" in 1957-1958, he was racking up gold records like the King. In 1958 he married his 13-year-old cousin, and unfortunately his career floundered in a flood of public outrage. However, with later releases like "Middle-Age Crazy" (1977), he has regained popularity with a country audience.
