FREDDY "BOOM BOOM" CANNON (b. Lynn, MA, Dec. 4, 1939) had his first hit with a song that his mother wrote, "Tallahassee Lassie," in 1957. After this, he became a popular rocker/greaser, with "Way Down in New Orleans," (1960) and "Pallisades Park" (1962). He was especially popular in the U.K. into the 60's, and his album The Explosive Freddy Cannon (1960) became the first American record to reach #1 there.
