Fronted by Debbie Harry (pictured at left) and her boyfriend Chris Stein, BLONDIE was the most successful new wave band of the late 70's. Starting as a twisted surf-rock/punk band in New York, playing with such bands as the Ramones and the Talking Heads, Blondie broke into the mainstream with their third album, the slick Parallel Lines (1978), and the number one hit "Heart of Glass." In the following years, they branched out into disco, rap, reggae, and produced three more number one hits--"Call Me" (1980), "The Tide Is High" (1980), and "Rapture" (1981)--before breaking up in 1983.
