Country stars June Carter and Merle Kilgore put their heads together in 1963 and created the all-time country classic RING OF FIRE [performance by Johnny Cash] . Carter's future husband, Johnny Cash, recorded the song later that year and watched it soar to No. 1 - and stay on the country music hit parade for a full six months. The single also reached No. 17 on the pop charts. The song has been recorded by many artists over the years, including Dwight Yoakam, Jerry Lee Lewis, Hank Williams, Jr., Earl Scruggs, Olivia Newton-John, Carlene Carter and even the new wave rock band Blondie.
