Glenn Miller's version of IN THE MOOD [performance by Glenn Miller] spent 12 weeks at No. 1 in the spring of 1940 and was later elected to the NARAS Hall Of Fame. Written by Joe Garland, In The Mood has become synonymous with the Great Band Era and is one of America's best-loved and most danced-to melodies. Other outstanding hit versions have been recorded by Johnny Maddox (1953), Ernie Fields (1959) and Bette Midler (1974). Perhaps the most unusual interpretation was by pop/country star Ray Stevens (who, as "the Henhouse Five Plus Too,") clucked his way up the charts in 1977. In 1990 In The Mood was also featured in the "Swing The Mood" medley which became a hit for Jive Bunny & the Mixermasters.
