Eight separate recordings of RED SAILS IN THE SUNSET [performance by The Platters] have been Top 40 hits in the U.S.A. since this British song was introduced in the U.S. by Guy Lombardo and His Royal Canadians in 1935. Lombardo's version stayed at No. 1 for four weeks; Bing Crosby's also went to No. 1 that December. Other hit versions have been recorded by Louis Armstrong (1936), Nat "King" Cole (1951), The Platters (1960) and Fats Domino (1963). The Beatles were performing this song onstage in 1962 at the Star Club in Hamburg, Germany, before they became a household name around the globe.

Also in 1960, HAVE YOU EVER BEEN LONELY by Teresa Brewer was released in December and reached peak chart position #84.

The Browns released THE OLD LAMPLIGHTER in March and it reached peak chart position #5 in May, 1960.
