No. 1 for four weeks; Bing Crosby's also went to No. 1 that December. Other
hit versions have been recorded by Louis Armstrong (1936), Nat "King" Cole
(1951), The Platters (1960) and Fats Domino (1963). The Beatles were performing this song onstage in 1962 at the Star Club in Hamburg, Germany, before
they became a household name around the globe.
Also in 1960, HAVE YOU EVER BEEN LONELY by Teresa Brewer was released in December and reached peak chart position #84. The Browns released THE OLD LAMPLIGHTER in March and it reached peak chart position #5 in May, 1960. In May of 1960, Duane Eddy released BECAUSE THEY'RE YOUNG from the film "Because They're Young" with Dick Clark and Tuesday Weld. This song reached peak chart position #4.
