IN THE CHAPEL IN THE MOONLIGHT [performance by Kitty Kallen] , written by country composer Billy Hill,
was introduced by Shep Fields and His Rippling Rhythm Orchestra. Their recording of the song went to No. 1 late in 1936. Three other versions became good
sellers within a year - those by Richard Himber (No. 7), Mal Hallet (No. 11)
and Broadway torch singer Ruth Etting (No. 20). Kitty Kallen, who had first found fame as a featured vocalist with Jimmy Dorsey's big band, revived the song in
1954 (No. 4), as did the Four Knights (No. 30). A decade later, both The
Bachelors (No. 32 in 1965) and Dean Martin (No. 25 in 1967) enjoyed success
with In The Chapel In The Moonlight.
"PAPA LOVES MAMBO [performance by Perry Como] and Mama loves mambo!" So sang Perry Como, who popularized this catchy dance number on his NBC television show. Como's 1954 recording climbed to No. 4 in the U.S.A. and sold over one million
copies.
