SIDE BY SIDE [performance by Kay Starr], songwriter Harry Woods' salute to the bond of friendship, was first published in 1927 and four versions of the song hit the record charts later that year. The most notable was by Paul Whiteman and His Orchestra, the most popular band of the pre-swing era. The song was revived in 1953 by Kay Starr, who took the tune to Number 3 (her Capitol recording is included here). This infectious tune has also been recorded by stars as diverse as Ray Charles, Steve Lawrence and Kate Smith.

Eddie Fisher was one of America's best-loved singers in the 1950s and OH! MY PA-PA [performance by Eddie Fisher] was one of the reasons why - a No. 1 hit for eight weeks in early 1954. Originally "O Mein Papa," this Father's Day favorite was written for the Swiss musical "Fireworks." Other artists who've recorded this dramatic tribute include The Andrews Sisters, The Mills Brothers, Ray Anthony, Eddie Calvert and Connie Francis.

SOUTH OF THE BORDER (Down Mexico Way) [performance by Frank Sinatra] has been a Top Twenty hit for a half dozen artists from Gene Autry to Guy Lombardo since bandleader Shep Fields' evocative version topped the charts in 1939. Frank Sinatra recorded this song April of 1953, and his version went smoothly swinging up the charts later that year. The Lombardo and Sinatra performances are both included in the Shapiro Bernstein catalog.

Dizzy Gillespie and Stan Getz recorded EXACTLY LIKE YOU.
